I wonder if the guy in command of the base and defenses got sacked afterwards for this lapse. ![]() I know the Brits had planes distracting them but man, nobody kept an eye open and were easily distracted until it was too late. I'm just amazed that the boats even got to the port's entrance and surprised the people there with their appearance. That's why western forces have always relied on active defenses instead of static ones after ww2 aka Magnot line. Defenses of that era were usually less effective than made out to be. ![]()
